About Virna’s Experience and Approach
to Counseling

Virna graduated from Nyack College, later renamed Alliance University, with a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling.  She has over 20 years of experience with a trauma informed care background helping a wide range of concerns and populations, including: youth involved in foster care, families recently immigrating to the US; and adults with behavioral and psychiatric conditions.  Furthermore, Virna has experience working with youths, adults, and families who struggle with depression, anxiety, school related concerns, grief, trauma, marital, interpersonal conflict, youth sexual abuse, and youth problematic sexual behaviors.

Virna is an Advance Trainer in the Nurtured Heart Approach, and she has been able to integrate the approach into her counseling to help build, strengthen, and restore interpersonal relationships that are a struggle. Virna is a bilingual (English/Spanish) clinician, and can provide sessions in either language, to your preference.  She has had the privilege of working with clients of various ages, ethnicities, faith/religion, and sexual orientation.  She strongly believes that culture and background matter.  Virna believes that we are all unique and possess skills and gifts we sometimes need to embrace, develop, and strengthen.  She is empathetic yet direct and you will find that you and Virna may be able to even laugh together.

Virna knows your journey is a priority and she offers a safe and supportive space where you can explore your experiences, feelings, and build meaningful relationships to ultimately live a fulfilling life. Virna aspires to make you feel seen and heard in a non-judgmental and compassionate way.
